I feel this was one of the more important events in the book. It really shows that Huck sees Jim as a regular man with feelings just like himself. This trick bothers Huck so much that he ends up apologizing to Jim, which is a hard thing for him to do. I feel that once Huck finally realizes Jim is a human being it became very difficult for Huck not to finish helping, although there were a few times where Huck almost gives in he ultimately chooses correctly and does what he feels right...
