Adams stood firm, and in the end the soldiers were convicted, but on minor charges. None of them were executed, and not one went to jail. Adam's remembered the case with pride as "one of the most gallant, manly, and disinterested actions of my whole life and one of the best pieces of service I have ever rendered for my country" (Founding Fathers)
