The stage lights were intense and helped make out even the jovial facial expressions of the performers. There were no expectations or any distractions, which seemed to make it easier to appreciate the jazz and the performance in general.

The conductor actually started off each piece by stepping on the floor, and then shouting "a one, a two, a one two three four". It was very entertaining to see this old conductor with long white hair bobbing his head to the music and letting it flow right through him. He would glance at the different performers one by one and give them the approval while they all performed...
