In agreement with this way of thinking, Weber argued that religious movements, at least those outside the sects of Puritanism (Methodism, Pietism, Baptism, and Calvinism) did not encourage the spirit of capitalism. Some of these argumentsiv were:
technical inventions were opposed on the basis of religion (disturbance of ancestral spirit leading to bad luck), instead of changing the world, adjusting oneself to it was preferred,
sale of land was often prohibited or made very difficult,
extended kinship groups (based on religion stressing the importance of family ties and ancestry) protected its members against economic adversities, therefore discouraging payment of debts and work discipline and increases of work effectiveness, and
those kinship prevented the development of urban status class, hindered legal developments like creation of legal institutions, codification of laws and jurist status class
Further studies discredited Webers conclusions as unfounded but, it is certain that his argument helped the general western belief that their culture is superior to others and that this is illustrated in the relative economic conditions that enjoy western countries... displayed 300 characters
