The first stanza in both poems is a lamenting of the circumstances; the romantic encounter is over and the new day must start. The male speaker blames the sun itself for this misfortune and tries to argue with it directly, while the female speaker blames the male and tries to argue with him. This shows differences in the reach of power for the male and female speakers in Donne’s world...
